You'll notice a slight difference with the speech bubbles on this page. I've been getting feedback from various people and have decided to alter them a little.
In fact, I think the speech bubbles have caused more confusion than anything for a lot of people who have seen them. The fact that they're different is vital to the story, it is meant to be more than just a warped poor sense of graphic design. :P
I'm a little surprised by peoples comments on speech bubbles, I think its more of a personal taste thing maybe!
I wouldnt scrap it completely though, I think its good for showing contrast, and speech bubbles are as much a visual importance as the rest of a comic. An award winning comic (Asterious Poylop) did the exact same thing as you, and although more abstract overall, most people I know who love that comic particularly like the way speech bubbles are used like that.
I think the darker shade of white looks nicer, I feel like it fits in better with the dark tones of the overall colour scheme.
I like them just fine - the bit where Khern speaks first works so well, it really made me go 'ooh!'
There's several other famous comics where people have done that, so I don't think you need to worry at all ^^
@Theorah - I didn't mean to sound like I was bothered by the comments, I actually don't mind. It dawned on me it would look better for print if it was off-white anyway. I'm definitely keeping the different speech bubbles going on. I know I'm going to run into trouble when more people start showing up but I'll jump that hurdle when I come to it.
@SunKitten - :D Oooh good! You know, yours and Theorah's comments made me realise my experience of comics is embarrassingly small for someone who has enjoyed them for five or so years. I can't bring any to mind that I've actually read myself that use the same device. The closest I can think of is when a demon started talking in one of the Tomb Raider comics and the speech bubbles were orangey-red and dripping! XD
